Birmingham Hebrew Congregation

Event:

ShabbatUK Friday night dinner has become a much-anticipated fixture on the Singers Hill calendar that now attracts a mixture of regular shul-goers and new faces. As well as providing an upbeat atmosphere in which participants could fully experience Shabbat and connect with fellow attendees, interesting insight into the legal profession was also provided by David Berkeley QC, who was well-received as the speaker on Friday night. A programme of activities on the following day meant families stayed in shul for most of Shabbat.

Evaluation from Rabbi Jacobs:

“It was an amazing experience to see people of all ages, including 33 children, sitting together being inspired about Shabbat observance. There were such a good number of new young families. The Ruach was tangible and because of this, seven families stayed in the area throughout the entire Shabbat”

Participant Feedback:

“It was great to do a little more than I usually do to mark Shabbat – experiencing a Havdalah ceremony, hearing an interesting speaker and just generally mixing with the community!”

“My family all joined in to make it memorable, from the oldest to the very youngest; it really felt like Shabbos for everyone”

“This whole weekend has continued the feeling of comradeship in our community”

“I enjoyed hearing the excellent speaker, as well as the opportunity to enjoy Friday night dinner and all day Shabbos with friends and members of the shul”

“We’re very, very lucky to have Rabbi and Rebbetzen Jacobs with their wonderful enthusiasm, teaching, friendship and understanding”
